Sol Duc Hot Springs

Sol Duc Hot Springs, known to local Native Americans for their therapeutic value, were first used by settlers in the 1880s. An elegant resort opened up in 1912, and was characterized as "the most noted pleasure and health resort on the Pacific Coast" until it burned to the ground in 1916. The resort was rebuilt on a much less grandiose scale in the 1920s, and was operated until it ran into trouble with its thermal spring in the 1970s. These difficulties were overcome, and the resort was rebuilt in the 1980s as:

Sol Duc Falls

Sol Duc Falls is truly one of the crown jewels of Olympic National Park. The thundering falls, shrouded in mist, are accessible from a short trail that provides a wonderful glimpse into the surrounding rain forest with its verdant valleys and the towering trees that grow to form a protective canopy. The Sol Duc falls are but one destination along the Sol Duc River.

Sol Duc River

The Sol Duc River is a primary route taken by coho salmon on their way to spawn and is popular with anglers. It is approximately 78 miles long, flowing west from the Olympic Mountains through the Olympic National Park & Forest and the Sold Duc Valley and eventually joins the Bogachiel River, forming the Quillayute River, which flows to the Pacific Ocean.
